Maintenance Lessons for Practice
Maintenance lessons provide continued practice for children following their initial ISR lessons. Regularly scheduled weekly or even monthly lessons help keep your child's skills fresh while supporting long-term confidence and safety. Contact us to see what maintenance schedule makes sense for your little one!
Refreshers for Returning Swimmers
Children grow and develop rapidly during early childhood, and their swim skills need to adjust as they grow. Refresher lessons are shorter sessions, designed for students who have already completed ISR lessons and need to keep their skills fresh. These classes reinforce their survival skills, adjust for growth and changes in their proportions, and keep your little one confident and capable in the water year after year.
FAQs
How can you teach babies and young children to swim?
ISR instructors teach infants to swim by honoring each child's individual strengths and experiences. They understand the fundamentals of the behavioral sciences, child development and of sensori-motor learning as it relates to the acquisition of aquatic survival skills; they use this education to guide each child through the sequence of learning to swim and float.
What do I bring to lessons each day?
SWIM DIAPERS: Any child not potty trained or potty trained less than 6 months will be required to wear two reusable swim diapers (Iplay or Happy Nappy style)
TOWELS: Bring 3 towels each day - two to lay down on the pool deck as a safety and sanitary barrier and one to dry the child after their lesson.
A POSITIVE ATTITUDE! Your child will be working hard and looking to you for affirmation and support so your demeanor will make a significant impact to their ISR experience
Are swimming lessons for infants and young children safe?
YES!
ISR is dedicated to safety and maintaining numerous safety protocols to promote safe lessons. Your child's health and well-being are our highest priority and are closely monitored on a daily basis. In addition, your child's medical and developmental history is a mandatory part of the ISR national registration process, all of which is held strictly confidential. All ISR instructors undergo an intensive and rigorous training that far exceeds any other training program of this kind. Each ISR instructor is also required to attend a yearly re-certification symposium that includes quality control as well as continuing education. Your education in the area of aquatic safety for your entire family is an integral part of your child's lessons. You will receive access to the "Parent Resource Guide", written by Dr. Harvey Barnett and JoAnn Barnett, which will inform you of every aspect of swimming for infants and children.
With research, you will find that ISR is the safest survival swimming program but also the most effective for teaching infants and young children.
Are there any dietary restrictions or eating window limitations while my child is in lessons?
Yes. As there are certain foods and fluids that can create an upset stomach from excessive gas, bloating, and delayed digestion the following restrictions are in place for the safety of each child
1. Dairy products (milk, yogurt, ice cream, cheese) are to be consumed at least 2 hours before the lesson time.
2. All other foods should be consumed at least 1-1.5 hours before the lesson time.
3. Foods not recommended during ISR lessons:

- PIneapples, papayas, passion fruit
